2016 Watchman's Teaching Letters

Watchman's Teaching Letter #224 December 2016

This is my two hundred and twenty-fourth monthly teaching letter and continues my nineteenth year of publication. I have resolved to do a series of lessons providing clarifying criticism of Howard B. Rand’s books, tracts and articles published in his Destiny Magazine, which includes several guest writers of varying degrees in excellence. Although I rate Rand and his associate writers only 50%, some of their articles are simply outstanding.

With this lesson, I will continue a critical review of a series entitled “The Book Of The Kingdom” found in Destiny magazines from January, 1949 until April, 1952 in 24 chapters, and oddly enough Rand does not identify an author. He may have written it all himself, or it might have been a team effort by him and some of his associated writers. So Rand either wrote it, or if by the help of others, at least he approved of it, and is responsible for it (and it will be edited by me):

The Book Of The Kingdom,Destiny, March 1949:

Chapter IV of XXIV, “Joshua’s (i.e., Yahshua’s) Final Instructions”:

Following The Conquest of the land of Palestine, six cities were appointed as cities of refuge to which a slayer who had killed a person by accident might flee and there be judged. If the slayer was found to be innocent of having committed murder, he was to reside in the city of refuge until the death of the High Priest then in office, after which he could return to his own home again. If he was adjudged guilty, he was turned over to the avenger of blood and executed. The interesting fact is that even those who accidentally killed another were deprived of their full freedom for the rest of the life of the High Priest serving the people when the accident occurred.

Contrary to popular belief, the Bible does not hold life cheaply. It is a serious thing to take life, and for the taking of life the murderer forfeits his life. But those who accidentally cause the death of another are confined in a city of refuge until the death of the High Priest. In some cases this might amount to life imprisonment. Such a law certainly produced respect for life and made a man careful of the life of his fellowman. This law in operation today would reduce automobile accidents to a minimum. A driver of a car would be as careful of the life of another’s husband, wife, daughter and son as he would be of his own loved ones, for none would want to forfeit his freedom.’ (Digest of the Divine Law, pages 67-68.)

Watchman's Teaching Letter #223 November 2016

This is my two hundred and twenty-third monthly teaching letter and continues my nineteenth year of publication. I have resolved to do a series of lessons providing clarifying criticism of Howard B. Although I rate Rand and his associate writers only 50%, some of their articles are simply outstanding.

The Book Of The Kingdom,Destiny, February 1949:

Chapter III of XXIV, “The Conquest Of Palestine”:

The Kings Of Canaan gathered together to form a great confederacy to fight against Joshua (i.e., Yahshua). However, when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Israel had done to Jericho and Ai, they were impressed by the might of the invading people so they resorted to cunning in an effort to escape the fate of their Canaanite neighbors. They sent delegates to Joshua (i.e., Yahshua) who represented themselves as ambassadors from a far country who had come to Joshua (i.e., Yahshua) because they had heard of Yahweh his Almighty and of His fame and exploits in subduing the Egyptians on behalf of His people Israel. Therefore, they said, they had come to make a league with Israel.

Watchman's Teaching Letter #222 October 2016

This is my two hundred and twenty-second monthly teaching letter and continues my nineteenth year of publication. I am continuing my resolution to do a series of lessons providing clarifying criticism of Howard B. Rand’s books, tracts and articles published in his Destiny Magazine, which includes several guest writers of varying degrees in excellence. Although I rate Rand and his associate writers only 50%, some of their articles are simply outstanding.

With this lesson, I will start a critical review of a series entitled “The Book Of The Kingdom” found in Destiny magazines from January, 1949 until April, 1952, in 24 chapters, yet oddly enough Rand does not identify an author. He may have written it all himself, or it might have been a team effort by him and some of his associate writers. So, even if Rand wrote it, or if by the help of others, at least he approved of it and is responsible for it (and it will be edited):

The Book Of The Kingdom,Destiny, January 1949:

Chapter I of XXIV, “Crossing The Jordan River”:

TheBookof Joshua begins with the account of Israel entering the Promised Land. Joshua means Jehovah saves or Jehovah, the Saviour. In Greek the name means Jesus. Referring to Joshua in the New Testament, the writers call him Jesus (see Acts 7:45 and Hebrews 4:8). It is perhaps not without significance that Joshua (i.e., Jesus) led Israel from the wilderness over the Jordan River into the Promised Land, bringing them into possession of their inheritance there. In this Joshua was a type of the Coming One, Jesus Christ, who is yet to lead His people into a land of promise when, at the close of the present age, we pass into the new order of the ages.”

Critical note by Clifton A. Emahiser: The pronunciation “Jehovah” was unknown until 1520 A.D., when it was introduced by the catholic monk, Galatinus, (Brown, Driver, Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon.)It was a failed Latinized attempt to transliterate the Hebrew Tetragrammaton, Yahweh! Yahshua Christ had the same identical name as Joshua (i.e., Yahshua), as there was no “J” in any language before the 1500’s A.D. Actually, the name “Jesus” is a mistransliteration of Joshua (i.e., Yahshua). Evidently, Howard B. Rand and associates never learned the real truth about the Hebrew Tetragrammaton! Matthew Henry, in his 6-volume Commentary, vol. 2, p. 2 says the following in part:

... Though Joshua is not expressly mentioned in the New Testament as a type of Christ, yet all agree that he was a very eminent one. He bore our Saviour’s name, as did also another type of him, Joshua the high priest, Zech. vi. 11, 12. The LXX., giving the name of Joshua a Greek termination, call him all along ‘ee-ay-sooce’, Jesus, and so he is called in Acts vii. 45, and Heb. iv. 8. Justin Martyr, one of the first writers of the Christian church (Dialog. cumTryph. p. mihi 300), makes that promise in Exod. xxiii. 20, ‘My angel shall bring thee into the place I have prepared’, to point at Joshua; and these words, My name is in him’, (v. 21)to refer to this, that his name should be the same with that of the Messiah. It signifies, He shall save. Joshua saves God’s people from the Canaanites; our Lord Jesus saves them from their sins. Christ, as Joshua, is the captain of our salvation, a leader and commander of the people, ‘to tread Satan under their feet’, to put them in possession of the heavenly Canaan, and to ‘gave them rest’, which (it is said, Heb. iv. 8) Joshua did not.”] – Back to Rand & Destiny.

Watchman's Teaching Letter #221 September 2016

This is my two hundred and twenty-first monthly teaching letter and continues my nineteenth year of publication. I have resolved to do a series of lessons providing clarifying criticism of Howard B. Rand’s books, tracts and articles published in his Destiny Magazine, which included several guest writers of varying degrees in excellence. Although I rate Rand and his associate writers only 50%, some of their articles are simply outstanding.

With this lesson, I will cite the second part of an article entitled, “The Iniquitous Empire; A Great Mystery”, by Howard B. Rand, found in Destiny Magazine for March, 1950 yearbook, pp. 81-88:

In WTL #220, I ended the lesson with a critical review thusly:

[Critical note by Clifton A. Emahiser: Since the subtitle above “Missing Significance”, I have been somewhat confused about what Rand is intimating, so I decided to review his Study in Daniel, pp. 179-181, but I ended up at pp. 87-88 where he implies that Great Britain is the Stone Kingdom and the Germans were “the image [that] was to be smashed, but the attack must be directed at the feet in accord with what Daniel so clearly outlined ... the Stone hits the feet of the image it will be followed by the final and entire collapse of the power of the image ... [and] seals the doom of Germany ...” Here, Rand takes a portion of Daniel’s prophecy completely out of context!]

The reader will need a copy of WTL #220 to understand the context of this second part of “The Iniquitous Empire….” We shall now continue with Rand where we had left off:

The Eagle’s Body

Articles in Destiny in the past have called attention to the three-headed eagle of Esdras, mentioned in the 11th, 12th and 13th chapters of his second book. These heads are shown to represent Fascism, Nazism and Communism in the chapter titled ‘An Eagle With Three Heads’ in Documentary Studies, Vol. I, pages 166-177. Up to the present time the eagle’s body, which supports the three heads, has not been identified, but it is clearly recognized now that the body of the eagle represents the iniquitous, hidden empire. The heads are merely governmental systems, or ideologies, through which the hidden empire has expressed its desires. Through them it has made war at will ....”

Watchman's Teaching Letter #220 August 2016

This is my two hundred and twentieth monthly teaching letter and continues my nineteenth year of publication. I have resolved to do a series of lessons doing a beneficial critical review of Howard B. Rand’s books, tracts and articles published in his Destiny Magazine.Printed for many years, Destiny Magazine had several guest writers of varying degrees of excellence. I rate Rand and his associate writers about 50%, but some of their articles are simply outstanding.

With this lesson, I will cite an article entitled, “The Iniquitous Empire: A Great Mystery”, by Howard B. Rand found in Destiny Magazine for March, 1950 yearbook, pp. 81-88:

The phenomenal rise of world Communism and the rapid advance of Political Zionism, coupled with the presence of abundant evidence to demonstrate the exercise of pressure from hidden sources and controls over the acts of politicians and governments, reveal the existence of a blueprint for world conquest that is master-minded by the authors of a great world conspiracy.

Watchman's Teaching Letter #219 July 2016

This is my two hundred and nineteenth monthly teaching letter and continues my nineteenth year of publication. At this juncture, I have decided to continue to do critical reviews of Howard B. Rand’s ministerial writings from his books, tracts and especially those found in his Destiny Magazine. The many issues of Destiny Magazines had several guest writers of varying degrees of excellence.

I will inform the reader at the outset that I only rate Rand and his associate writers about 50%. However, the 50% that they get correct is simply outstanding. I would also advise the reader, if one can find any of their original printed articles, to check my edited articles against the original publications. My position is, if anyone who has put anything into writing or speech, they are fair game for a critical review, as it best serves our kinsmen in the faith, and this is what I will be doing with Rand and his associated group of writers.

Watchman's Teaching Letter #218 June 2016

This is my two hundred and eighteenth monthly teaching letter and continues my nineteenth year of publication. In the last letter, WTL #217, I brought up the subject of THE ELIJAH MINISTRY at Malachi 4:5-6, which I will quote again because of its GREAT IMPORTANCE:

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Yahweh: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”

To understand the Elijah Message to a greater degree, I am going to continue citing an excellent article entitled “Elijah the Tishbite” that first appeared in the July 1947 Destiny Magazine, later packaged into a 1947 Yearbook, pp. 232-238 written by Howard B. Rand. However, I will also continue including my own critical notes, editing out terms like “Jehovah’ in favor of the true name “Yahweh” and other labels that are more fitting. We will start where we left off in WTL #217:

ELIJAH THE TISHBITE, Part #2, by Howard B. Rand

Edited by Clifton A Emahiser

The multitudes in Israel are always unable to hear this voice directing and guiding His servants in the paths of righteousness. When Elijah recognized the Presence of Yahweh he wrapped his face in his mantle and went and stationed himself in the entrance of the cave. The Voice addressed him and asked, ‘What doest thou here, Elijah?’ The Prophet replied as before that he was zealous for Yahweh but His prophets had been slain, Israel had forsaken His covenant and they even sought his life.

The Command

The Voice commanded him to return by the way of the wilderness of Damascus and anoint Hazael to be King over Syria and Jehu to be King over Israel. Also, he was to anoint Elisha to be a prophet in his place. Yahweh then said:

“‘And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.’ (1 Kings 19:17.)

In spite of the great apostasy, the misrule of Ahab and the violence of Jezebel, Yahweh informed Elijah:

“‘Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.’ (1 Kings 19:18.)

Elijah did as he was commanded and departed from the Mount [before] Yahweh. Finding Elisha plowing in his field, he cast his mantle over him as he passed by. That was a sign to Elisha that he was to follow Elijah and, if faithful, he would finally become his successor. He accepted the call and the mantle of Elijah was to become his after he had ministered to the needs of the prophet.

Watchman's Teaching Letter #217 May 2016

This is my two hundred and seventeenth monthly teaching letter and begins my nineteenth year of publication. In the last letter, WTL #216, I brought up the subject of THE ELIJAH MINISTRY at Malachi 4:5-6, which I will quote again because of its GREAT IMPORTANCE:

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Yahweh: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”

To understand the Elijah Message to a greater degree, I am going to cite an excellent article entitled “Elijah the Tishbite” that first appeared in the July 1947 Destiny Magazine, later packaged into a 1947 Yearbook, pp. 232-238, written by Howard B Rand. However, I am going to include my own critical notes, edit out terms like “Jehovah” in favor of the true name “Yahweh” and other labels that are more fitting.

ELIJAH THE TISHBITE, Part #1, by Howard B. Rand

Edited by Clifton A Emahiser

The birth, life and history of many of the men whose activities are recorded in the Sacred Record are prophetic of things to come. As an illustration, the ‘time of Jacob’s trouble,’ to which Jeremiah refers (Jer. 30:7), defines a period in the experience of the people of Israel in the last days and is a description of the troubles which would overtake them as the age draws to its close. But this period of trouble has its pattern in the difficulties Jacob himself experienced during his lifetime and this is the specific reason it is called the ‘time of Jacob’s trouble.’

[CAE Note: Here Rand is absolutely correct, and we should really read Jer. 30:1-12:

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying, 2 Thus speaketh Yahweh Almighty of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book. 3 For, lo, the days come, saith Yahweh, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith Yahweh: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it. 4 And these are the words that Yahweh spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah. 5 For thus saith Yahweh; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. 6 Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? 7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it. 8 For it shall come to pass in that day, saith Yahweh of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him: 9 But they shall serve the Yahweh their Almighty, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them. 10 Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith Yahweh; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid. 11 For I am with thee, saith Yahweh, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished. 12 For thus saith Yahweh, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous.”] Back to Rand –

Watchman's Teaching Letter #216 April 2016

This is my two hundred and sixteenth monthly teaching letter and ends my eighteenth year of publication. In the last letter, WTL #215, I brought up the subject of THE ELIJAH MINISTRY at Malachi 4:5-6, which I will quote again because of its GREAT IMPORTANCE:

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Yahweh: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”

I should point out from the very beginning, there are only a Minor Few who have any idea of the SIGNIFICANCE of what this passage is all about and how its context accords with the rest of the Bible. Hopefully, before we finish this exposé, there will be absolutely no doubt in the reader’s mind how it fits into the design of Almighty Yahweh.

Watchman's Teaching Letter #215 March 2016

This is my two hundred and fifteenth monthly teaching letter and continues my eighteenth year of publication. In the last letter, WTL #214, I completed an autobiography of my wife Trillis (Tillie) and myself as best I could remember, and from the records I had at hand. That series of WTL lessons started with Letter #203, March, 2015, and continued for twelve months, so if you want to review this autobiography, you will need WTLs 203 through 214. Having read these you will have a better idea of who I am, and why I publish these things. The main purpose, though, is found at Malachi 4:5-6 which reads:

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Yahweh: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”

Who else other than those teaching the Christian Israel Identity Message are doing this very thing today?

Here is an excerpt from the Youth Message, London, England, reproduced from Destiny Magazine, July, 1947:

John Wilson and Edward Hine by Marie King:

John Wilson was born at Kilmarnock, Scotland, in 1779 and commenced his Inquiry into the Israelitish origin of the Anglo-Saxons in the year 1837. Studying at great length in the library of Trinity College, Dublin, he succeeded in tracing the Anglo-Saxons as far back as Media.

Watchman's Teaching Letter #213 January 2016

This is my two hundred and thirteenth monthly teaching letter and continues my eighteenth year of publication. In the last letter, WTL #212, I discussed my wife’s, Trillis Almina (Moehlman) Emahiser’s church affiliation more or less in detail, all the way back to Ireland in the 1600s. With this lesson I will address the church affiliation that Tillie and I had together as husband and wife. Originally, I planned to present, (1) the background of my own church affiliation, then (2) the background of my wife’s church affiliation, and lastly, (3) The church affiliation that Tillie and I had together as husband and wife. This will be the third, and last, part of this series on church affiliation.

After Tillie and I had gotten married, we moved into an apartment in a house on Ohio avenue in Tiffin, Ohio, where I had a job at Brimner and Borer’s Barbershop. My wife, Tillie, had to quit her job at Sears Roebuck in the bookkeeping department in Fostoria. After WW II, housing was quite a problem for several years. Tiffin was a college town, the home of Heidelberg University. Everywhere, at that time, the colleges and universities were full and overflowing with students because the WW II veterans were taking advantage of the G.I. Bill for educational monetary assistance. Before getting married, I had spent about two months trying to find some kind of housing for Tillie and I in Tiffin, but found that every housing unit had already been spoken for. Finally, about two weeks before our wedding date, I heard of a possible apartment opportunity by word of mouth, probably from one of the barber customers where I was employed. It was a fairly nice furnished apartment, but we had to enter through the living room of the woman who was renting the apartment. This didn’t give us the privacy we needed. After we climbed a stairway and closed the door behind us, we then had our privacy.
