Who are the Biblical Angels? – A Critical Perspective, (#5)

Category:

If one does not have papers #’s 1, 2, 3 & 4 of this series, it is paramount that these papers in this study be obtained and reviewed in order to comprehend where we are, at the present time!

As I was nearing the end paper #3, I was discussing the possibility of the fallen angels using aphrodisiac plant-based stimuli to jump-start their sexual desires, and I stated the following, (which I have upgraded):

... The only thing that I can imagine is, Yahweh must have given His male angels all of the abilities of His male creations, except the part of the body that produces natural opioids which stimulate the sex drive in humans. Without these, the male angels would have had no desire for sexual intercourse. Evidently, the third of the angels that rebelled against Yahweh and fell found aphrodisiac-stimuli in some type of vegetation to jump-start their sexual desires!”

I quotedThe 1st Book of Enoch 7:1-11, to support that possibility of using opioids, and v. 10 is particularly significance:“Then they took wives, each choosing for himself; whom they began to approach, and with whom they cohabited; teaching them sorcery, incantation, and the dividing of roots and trees.”

While Martin Abegg Jr., Peter Flint & Eugene Ulrich didn’t include The 1st Book of Enoch in their Dead Sea Scrolls Bible, I do, though, have the Dead Sea Scroll fragment facsimiles in their original language, and on the opposite page a translation in a set of two volumes entitled The Dead Sea Scrolls, Study Edition by Florentino García Martínez & Eibert J.C. Tigchelaar, vol. 1, pp. 399-409, (The 1st Book of Enoch). We are interested in Dead Sea Scroll #’s (4Q202II; 4Q204II) in part:

Page 403: “... Th[ey and th]eir [ch]iefs [all took for themselves] 14 women, from all they chose, and [they began to penetrate them, to be defiled by them] 15 and to teach them sorcery, [incantations and the cutting of roots and to explain herbs.] 16 They became pregnant by them and gave [birth to giants .... They began to sin and to ...] 20 against all the birds and [animal]s of [the] earth [and (against) the reptiles who move upon the earth and in the waters] 21 [and in] the sky/ and the fish of the sea ....” Although fragmented, this is substantial evidence that not only did the fallen angels corrupt their genetics by mixing with the daughters of Adam-man, but they also corrupted their genetics with animals, birds and reptiles! The Book of Jasher, 4:18, alludes to this stating in part: “... took their wives by force from their husbands according to their choice ... took from the cattle of the earth, the beast of the field and the fowls of the air, and taught the mixture of animals of one species with the other ....”

From another edition of the Qumran scrolls, The Dead Sea Scrolls, A New Translation by Michael Wise, Martin Abegg Jr. and Edward Cook, on page 247, a translation of 1Q23, fragments 1 and 6:

1 [... two hundred] 2 donkeys, two hundred asses, two hund[red ... rams of the] 3 flock, two hundred goats, two hundred [... beast of the] 4 field from every animal, from every [bird ...] 5 [...] for miscegenation [...].”

And in the same source, 4Q531, fragment 2: “1 [...] they defiled [...] 2 [... they begot] giants and monsters [...] 3 [...] they begot, and, behold, all [the earth was corrupted ...] 4 [...] with its blood and by the hand of [...] 5 [giants] which did not suffice for them and [...] 6 [...] and they were seeking to devour many [...] 7 [...] 8 the monsters attacked it.”

Again, 4Q532, Col. 2 fragments 1-6: “2 [...] flesh [...] 3 al[l ...] monsters [...] will be [...] 4 [...] they would arise [...] lacking in true knowledge [...] because [...] 5 [...] the earth [grew corrupt ...] mighty [...] 6 [...] they were considering [...] 7 [...] from the angels upon [...] 8 [...] in the end it will perish and die [...] 9 [...] they caused great corruption in the [earth ...] 10 [... this did not] suffice to [...] 11 they will be [...].”

While quite fragmentary, the general theme of these fragments from what is known as the Book of Giants is readily evident, and the emphasis on the word miscegenation is mine. It should be quite clear, here, that the fallen angels not only mixed their genetics with Adamic women, but also among animals and other kinds of flesh creating genetically modified organisms, or GMOs!

To put all of this in a proper perspective, I will now quote from Unger’s Bible Dictionary, by Merrill F. Unger, p. 404:

1. Nephilim (nef´i-lim; Hebrew nephilim). The form of the Hebrew word denotes a plural verbal adjective or noun of passive signification, certainly from naphal, ‘to fall,’ so that the connotation is ‘the fallen ones,’ clearly meaning the unnatural offspring which were on the earth in the years before the flood, ‘and also after that’ (Num. 13:33), ‘when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men’ (Gen. 6:4.). The mention of the great stature of the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, in the evil report which the ten spies brought of the land of Canaan (Num. 13:33) together with the Septuagint rendering, gigantes, suggested the translation giants. The real idea of the word must have been ‘fallen ones’ or monsters of mixed human and angelic birth, like the rebellious Titans. They were exceedingly wicked and violent so that ‘every imagination’ of the thoughts of men’s hearts ‘was only evil continually’ (Gen. 6:5).

2. Rephaim (ref´a-im; Hebrew repha’im), shades, ghosts). The aboriginal giants who inhabited Canaan, Edom, Moab and Ammon. In Abraham’s time, c. 1950 B.C., Chedorlaomer defeated them. At the period of the Conquest, c. 1440 B.C., Og, king of Bashan, is said to have alone remained of this race (Deut. 3:11; Josh. 12:4; 13:12). His huge bedstead of iron is particularly mentioned.

3. Anakim (an´a-kim; Hebrew ’anaqim, sons of Anak). In Num. 13:33 the Anakim are classed with the Emim and the Rephaim on account of their gigantic size.

4. Emim (em´im), a race which inhabited the country of the Moabites (Gen. 14:5), and which is pictured as ‘great and many and tall as the Anakim’ (Deut. 2:11).

5. Zamzumim (zam´zum-im), a giant race inhabiting the land of Ammon (Deut. 2:20).

6. Other references. From a remnant of the Anakim in Philistine Gath came the famous Goliath (1 Sam. 17:4). Two of the Philistine giants are mentioned in 2 Sam. 21: 16-22. The tradition of a giant race persisted in the ancient Near East and goes back in the Genesis account to intercourse between fallen angels and mortal women. Although this so-called angel hypothesis of Gen. 6:1-4 is disclaimed by many Bible students, it is a clear implication of the original. Says W.F. Albright, ‘Yahweh was believed to have created astral as well as terrestrial beings and the former were popularly called, ‘the host of heaven’ or ‘the sons of God.’ In Gen. 6:1 ff., for example, ... the (astral) gods had intercourse with mortal women who gave birth to heroes (literally, meteors, nephilim), an idea that may often be illustrated from Babylonian and Greek mythology. But the Israelite who had this section recited, unquestionably thought of intercourse between angels and women (like later Judeans and Christians).’ From the Stone Age to Christianity, (1940), p. 226.”

For a second witness, I will cite Nelson’s New Illustrated Dictionary, Edited by Ronald E. Youngblood, pp. 491-492:

GIANTS human beings of abnormal size and strength. Races of giants are first mentioned in the Old Testament in Genesis 6:4, where giant godlike beings were produced by the union of ‘the sons of God’ and ‘the daughters of men.’ These abnormal unions displeased God (Gen. 6:5-6). The giants, or Nephilim, became ‘mighty men ... men of renown,’ perhaps a reference to their tremendous height.

Rephaim were primitive giants who lived in Canaan, Edom, Moab, and Ammon. They were also known as Emim (Deut. 2:11) and Zamzummim (Deut. 2:20). King Og of Bashan (Deut. 3:11) was the last of these giants. His iron bed was 9 cubits long and 4 cubits wide (about 13 feet by 6 feet).

When Moses sent 12 men to spy out the land of Canaan, they returned with the frightening report that they saw ‘giants’ who made them feel like ‘grasshoppers’ (Num. 13:33). These giants were descendants of Anak, ‘a people great and tall’ (Deut. 9:2). This negative report by 10 of the spies caused the children of Israel to spend a night in murmuring and weeping. Only Joshua and Caleb urged the people to claim the land (Num. 14:38).

Goliath is the most famous giant in the Bible (1 Sam. 17:4), measuring six cubits and a span, which is more than three meters (nine feet) tall. Goliath taunted the Israelites and demanded a warrior to meet him in combat. David, the shepherd boy, with his sling and stone, dared to accept the challenge of the Philistine giant in full armor because he knew that God would direct him in the battle (1 Sam. 17:45). David’s stone struck Goliath in the forehead, and Goliath fell facedown. David then cut off the giant’s head, and the Philistines were put to flight (1 Sam. 17:49, 51).”

The main problems we have with all of this are the faulty translations of Gen. 6:1-6, especially vv. 2 and 4. To prepare to thoroughly examine this passage, I will give the Strong’s numbers just behind the Hebrew word or phrase as follows:

Gen. 6: “[1] And it came to pass,1961 when3588 men120 began2490 to multiply7231 on5921 the face6440 of the earth,127 and daughters1323 were born3205 unto them [2] That the sons1121 of God430 saw7200(853) the daughters1323 of men120 that3588 they2007were fair;2896 and they took3947 them wives802 of all4480, 3605 which834 they chose977. [3] And the LORD3068 said,559 My spirit7307 shall not3808 always5769 strive1777 with man120, for that he1931 also7945, 1571is flesh1320: yet his days3117 shall be1961 a hundred3967 and twenty6242 years8141. [4] There were1961 giants5303 in the earth776 in those1992 days;3117 and also1571 after310 that,3651 when834 the sons1121 of God430 came in935 unto413 the daughters1323 of men120, and they bore3205children to them, the same1992became mighty men1368 which834were of old4480, 5769, men376 of renown.8034 [5] And GOD3068 saw7200 that3588 the wickedness7451 of man120was great7227 in the earth,776 and that every3605 imagination3336 of the thoughts4284 of his heart3820was only7535 evil7451 continually3605, 3117. [6] And it repented5162 the LORD3068 that3588 he had made6213(853) man120 on the earth,776 and it grieved6087 him at413 his heart3820”.

Of these six verses, I will first examine the Hebrew word meanings of Gen. 6:4 as follows:

[4] There were1961 giants5303 in the earth776 in those1992 days;3117 and also1571 after310 that,3651 when834 the sons1121 of God430 came in935 unto413 the daughters1323 of men,120 and they bore3205children to them, the same1992became mighty men1368 which834were of old,4480, 5769 men376 of renown8034.”

H5303 ... nephiyl, nef-eel´, or nephil, nef-eel´; from H5307; properly, a feller, that is, a bully or tyrant:– KJV rendering:giant. [underlining mine]

H5307 ... nâphal, naw-fal´; a primitive root; to fall, in a great variety of applications (intransitively or causatively, literally or figuratively):– KJV renderings: be accepted, cast (down, self, [lots], out), cease, die, divide (by lot), (let) fail, (cause to, let, make, ready to) fall (away, down, -en, -ing), fell (-ing), fugitive, have [inheritance], inferior, be judged [by mistake for H6419], lay (along), (cause to) lie down, light (down), be (X hast) lost, lying, overthrow, overwhelm, perish, present (-ed, -ing), (make to) rot, slay, smite out, X surely, throw down.” [underlining mine]

Therefore, I would translate the first sentence of Gen. 6:4 thusly:

There were [fallen angel tyrants] in the earth in those days.”

Secondly, we have a serious problem reading Gen. 6:2, which is translated thusly in the KJV:

[2] That the sons1121 of God430 saw7200(853) the daughters1323 of men120 that3588 they2007were fair;2896 and they took3947 them wives802 of all4480, 3605 which834 they chose977.”

H1121 ... bên, bane; from H1129; a son (as a builder of the family name), in the widest sense (of literal and figurative relationship, including grandson, subject, nation, quality or condition, etc., (like H1, H251, etc.):– KJV renderings: + afflicted, age, [Ahoh-] [Ammon-] [Hachmon-] [Lev-]ite, [anoint-]ed one, appointed to, (+) arrow, [Assyr-] [Babylon-] [Egypt-] [Grec-]ian, one born, bough, branch, breed, + (young) bullock, + (young) calf, X came up in, child, colt, X common, X corn, daughter, X of first, + firstborn, foal, + very fruitful, + post age, X in, + kid, + lamb, (+) man, meet, + mighty, + nephew, old, (+) people, + rebel, + robber, X servant born, X soldier, son, + spark, + steward, + stranger, X surely, them of, + tumultuous one, + valiant[-est], whelp, worthy, young (one), youth.”

And “H430 ... ’elôhîym, el-o-heem´; plural of H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:– KJV renderings: angels, X exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.”

Put H1121 and H430 together and we have “beni-elohim”. The problem in Gen. 6:2 is, we have two different “beni-elohims” to recognize, and I will quote this verse in order to show them:

That the (#1) sonsH1121 of GodH430 saw the (#2) daughters of menH120 that they were fairH2896; and they took them wives, whomsoever they chose.”

Therefore the “sons of God” in Gen. 6:2 is entity #1 and “the daughters of men” is entity #2, as H120 is the Hebrew word for Adam, and his descendants! So we have fallen angels designated as “sons of God”, and Adam-man who is called “the son of God” at Luke 3:38!

H120 ... ’âdâam, aw-dawm´; from H119; ruddy, that is, a humanbeing (an individual or the species, mankind, etc.):– KJV renderings: X another, + hypocrite, + common sort, X low, man (mean, of low degree), person.”

H119 ... ’âdam, aw-dawm´; to showblood (in the face), that is, flush or turn rosy:– KJV renderings: be (dyed, made) red (ruddy).

H2896 ... tôwb, tobe; from H2895; good (as an adjective) in the widest sense; used likewise as a noun, both in the masculine and the feminine, the singular and the plural (good, a good or good thing, a good man or woman; the good, goods or good things, good men or women), also as an adverb (well):– KJV renderings: beautiful, best, better, bountiful, cheerful, at ease, X fair (word), (be in) favour, fine, glad, good (deed, -lier, liest, -ly, -ness, -s), graciously, joyful, kindly, kindness, liketh (best), loving, merry, X most, pleasant, + pleaseth, pleasure, precious, prosperity, ready, sweet, wealth, welfare, (be) well ([-favoured]).” In English “fair” can mean, #6, “light in color”, plus all of the other excellent qualities that White people have! So when getting on the subject of the sons of God, make sure of the context, whether it is the: (1) “fallen angel tyrants” or (2) Adam-man and his descendants! At Gen. 6:2 it is clear there are two different entities! At Gen. 6:4, the “sons of God” are the “fallen angel tyrants” as well!

If you don’t like my translation at Gen. 6:4, “There were [fallen angel tyrants] in the earth in those days”, you might cross out the word “giants” and write “nephilim” above it. On the other hand, maybe some of the words are out of order, as I have recognized in the Dead Sea Scrolls Bible, by Martin Abegg Jr., Peter Flint & Eugene Ulrich. If this is the case, here is how Gen. 6:4 might read:

In those days the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, after that there were giants in the earth, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.”

We must also remember that the “giants” were “fallen angel tyrants”, some of whose offspring were as much as 13 feet tall! Evidently, the Rephaim, Anakim, Emim, and Zamzumim were all related to the Nephilim of Gen. 6:2, 4.

Some readers might remember a song entitled “Throw Mama From the Train A Kiss, A Kiss”, made popular by Patti Page in 1956. This song demonstrates how a person used to speaking a foreign language might get the English words out of order. Actually, what they do is to get the cart before the horse, and the language translations of the Bible are no exception to the rule, as the Dead Sea Scrolls Bible proves.

To demonstrate to the reader a case in point of how, in some translations, the word order can be changed, I will cite the KJV and compare it to the Dead Sea Scrolls Bible at Isaiah 4:1 in part:

KJV: “And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man ....”

DSSB: “Seven women will take hold of one man on that day ....”

While this is not our subject here, it does show how the word order can be changed by the translators! Chances are the DSSB translation is the better of the two!

If one will read Gen. 6:2 from the KJV, and then read Gen. 6:4 as I have translated it above, one will better grasp the progression of sin thusly:

2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose .... 4 “In those days the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, after that there were giants in the earth, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.”

The progression of sin is clearly spelled out at James 1:14-15:

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

I believe that this is also true of the angels that sinned: (1) “the sons of God saw the daughters of men”, (2) “they took them wives of all which they chose”, (3) “In those days the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them”, (4) “the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.” (5) And of course, the genetics of the fallen angels mixed with the genetics of Adam-women brought the death of the Spirit that was breathed into Adam-man, as with all of the offspring by racing-mixing, thus polluting the White race of Adam, Gen. 2:7!

It should be noticed that it was the Adam-women who were race-mixing with the fallen angels, and that the Adam-men were in want of a help meet, and in order to satisfy their natural sex drive they very likely turned to unnatural homosexual activity. It is no wonder, then, why Yahweh had to destroy them. Gen. 6:7-9:

7 And Yahweh said, I will destroy manH120 whom I have created from the face of the earth; from manH120 unto beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of Yahweh. 9 These are the generationsH8435 of Noah: Noah was a justH6662 man and perfect in his generationsH1755, and Noah walked with the Almighty.”

From Wilson’s Old Testament Word Studies, p.184:

H8435 ... tôwledâh, to-led-aw´; families, generations; family history; origin, or events in reference to the creation of the world, &c., Jarchi, sometimes order of birth: ... Gen. vi.9 ....” [Jarchi unknown to me.]

H1755 ... dôwr,dore; or (short) dôr, dore; an age, a generation of men; a race of men contemporary, Gen. vi. 9 or, implying conformity Prov. xxx. 10-14. So it may be understood in that disputed passage, Isa. liii, 8 ‘his generation,’ the race conformed to the Messiah, equivalent to ‘the seed,’ verse 10 [i.e. Isa. 53:10]: Gen vi. 9 &c., all, many generations, Heb. generation and generation; every generation, Heb. id. ....” [ ] mine

I was not at all satisfied with Strong’s Dictionary on #8435, and especially #1755! It should now be highly evident that Noah and his family were perfect in their racial genealogy!
